Letters, Juice, Theatre, & Handiwork

Yesterday, I sent off a thank-you note to our friends that we stayed with this past weekend -- I'm always so bad at sending thank-you notes, but this was the perfect opportunity for the Letter Writing Challenge.  I used my "K" stationary and a "Thank You" sticker since I didn't have a real card.  (I tried to make one and an envelope but I am apparently an envelope-idiot.  I didn't have a computer to look up how to make one)

The day before that, I sent off my last pretty card (need to go to Michael's and find some more - they were 8/$1 or something, all in a little pack) to my godparents, since I am hopeless at keeping in touch with people via phone.  I told them about our new church building, and how my husband and I were involved with various aspects of church (they like to know those things), and then told them about the play and what I've been doing to keep busy since I saw them last.  I did not include a picture since I taxed my drawing skills in attempting to draw something for my family the other day, but if I finish that voice/harp CD I've been thinking about, maybe I'll send them one too.

Today I'm writing my family -- or at least, posting the letter I wrote a few days ago.  It's a piece of fluff, really, but I can't talk to them about serious things and anyway I think serious stuff should be talked about face-to-face.  I am thinking about sending a square of embroidery, since I gave my mother one for her birthday (which we celebrated on Monday).  I think it would be fun to send her one every so often so that at the end of the year she can put them all together however she wants.

She bought me some embroidery fabric, and I already had the thread, so I've been quite happy to experiment -- I found an entire site with embroidery stitches, pictures and tutorials.  The first project I did (which I'm still not done with but I haven't got red thread) is completely nerdy -- I traced a really great piece of fan art (Harry Potter & Hagrid) onto the fabric and then embroidered over it -- now all I have left to do is the scarf and my signature and I'm done!

(I think some tiny embroidery for the dollhouse - maybe a wall hanging - would be brilliant!)

We did a read-through of the first two scenes of Arsenic & Old Lace on Friday, and we got our schedules -- practice every Monday & Friday!  Two days to look forward to!  Although now my schedule is quite full - I have something every night but Sunday!  Eeek!  But it's a fun busy -- play practice, voice, choir, tutoring, play practice, game night.  Good times.

I'm hoping the play will be a good distraction from my present anxieties -- I got a long letter from a friend that closely parallels the family drama we have going on, and things that happened to me in college, so that's sad to hear, although I'm happy to be back in touch.  The world can sometimes be a sad, dark place but that just makes Heaven look all the more enticing.

We also started juicing again -- per my darling husband's several requests!  We bought spinach, cucumbers, carrots, apples (HoneyCrisp), bananas and frozen blueberries/blackberries.  In the mornings, I make this juice:

1 c. spinach leaves (packed)
1 medium carrot
1/2 cucumber (including peel)
1 HoneyCrisp apple

So it has less sugar than the other juices I was making, and it really does wake me up and give me energy.  I did add a teensy bit of Simply Orange juice to it this morning for a citrus-y taste, and hubby pronounced it just as good as the regular juice.

For lunches, I'm doing smoothies again.  Here's this week's recipe:

1 banana
1/4 c. oats
3/4 c. vanilla yogurt
1/2-3/4 c. blueberries (unsweetened)

I have blackberries as well so I was thinking about oats, almonds, blackberries and apples with yogurt as a smoothie for next week - we'll see.

Hubby cooked dinner last night (beef stew - he even made the broth!), which was delicious -- I was meaning to have just one small bowl but I ended up having two.  Ooops.

I've also kept thinking about where to go from here.  Back to school?  Where?  For what? (Cosmetology?  Art Therapy?  Dance?  Art History?  Acting?)  Or should I just go pro w/out the education?  Harpist?  Artist?  Actress?  Wedding Photographer?  Who knows...but Art Therapy or Art History would be interesting...I've been thinking about those two of late because a) There aren't any Art therapists in the area that cater to adults, b) I need art therapy and c) I think it would be amazing to work with creative, broken people -- another reason I wanted to pursue acting a while ago.  Art History would be awesome because I could work in museums and galleries around the world (!!!), talk about art, and help others explore the beauty that is art.

I dyed someone's hair this past weekend (it turned out almost perfect -- just a few strands here and there to touch-up) and we had a great talk while we did it -- which of course made me want to go to beauty school.

I want deep conversations with people, I want to let them know that I care, and I want to help them.  I could do that as an Art Therapist or Hairdresser, right?
