Werewolf + Harry Potter + Family = NIGHTMARE

So the title is a bit dramatic, but that dream really was scary!

After a dinner of chicken spaghetti and some guava puff pastries (YUMMY), I went to sleep and dreamed that I was back in our old house in Knoxville, and my family was moving out of it. I was helping, but I am not sure where we were going.

My sister and my parents were there, but I believe my brothers were elsewhere.

Also helping us were Hermione, Snape, and Remus, but unfortunately Remus turned into a werewolf mid-packing and we had to run up and down the three stories chasing him (and running from him) so he wouldn't bite anyone else. Snape wanted to cast some spell that I knew would hurt Remus, but I managed to get everyone some really big, heavy books and we whacked Remus in the head with them, but he wouldn't stay knocked out for long and we'd begin the chase all over again.

I was on the top floor with Hermione and I grabbed Snape by the sleeve and said, "I've got to tell you something!" and he looked down at me and said, "Right now?" and I replied, "NO! After this!" and then Remus came up the stairs and I grabbed Hermione in one arm and put one hand around Remus' neck and he was snapping at us...

And then of course, my alarm clock went off. >:(

Not sure if I was just me, or Harry (I'm usually Harry), or a mix, but that was a crazy dream and SO REAL. I heard Remus snapping his jaws and he was so close, it was TERRIFYING but I knew I couldn't hurt him because it was Remus.

Yikes. Maybe I better go easy on the spaghetti sauce next time.

Crafting

My friend Elizabeth recently gave me some materials to craft with - some awesome cotton yarn and some beading materials!! Which means I've gone on a craft rampage.

I've made two matching potholders out of the cotton yarn (which means when I wash them they won't felt and become dollhouse potholders), 3 pair of earrings, a bracelet, and a rosary (now I just need a cross for it).

Today I'll be decorating a tri-fold for the Children's Sunday School, and then probably going back to beading...I have a necklace to make (for Elizabeth), and probably another rosary (for another friend...!)...although it is going to irk me until I get a cross or two.

...and I still have enough hardware to make 4 more pair of earrings.

I should get out my scrapbook and just keep the crafting going...and then there's always something else to knit! Right now I need to knit two baby hats and a grown man's hat (but I only have one of the colors he wants so I've got to find a light brown), and I REALLY want to try making a sweater or slouchy beret. And then there are knitted earrings (with wire!!! ?????) that I probably should figure out how to do.

And then of course, there's my drawings. I should finish those (both on paper and digitally).

One craft begets another, I'm afraid. At least with me. So I need to go clean before I delve into a pile of beads or yarn or paper.

Also, thankfully, it's Saturday, so I have time to do it all! :)

Fan Art!

I've been trying to get back into drawing the past few days, and have been somewhat pleasantly surprised at the results. I've sketched Neville and Luna (somewhat resembling the movie versions? Not sure...), and I'm working on a sketch of the Marauders being caught by Filch (which then gives them the idea for The Marauders Map)...I've drawn Peter, Lupin, & James but Sirius is becoming a problem. Hoping to finish that tonight.

I've learned that with the way I draw, I need to empty my head. I can't think of a sketch and then draw it...I just have to let my subconscious show up and tell my hand where to go. At least, that's where I get my best drawings. Sometimes, I'll come up with an idea but those are always the hardest to get down on paper.

I've got two ideas for fan art for The Hunger Games, and a list of fan art somewhere...for the Chronicles of Prydain, more Harry Potter, and something else...?? Guess I need to go dig that out and see if anything strikes my fancy.

Eventually, I'd like to scan my sketches and color them on a computer with my tablet. I think that might become my preferred method, seeing as how I ALWAYS manage to color outside the lines. At least the computer has a delete button (and I've learned how to use layers!!!).

To ze UNPACK!

So...still unpacking. This week is the welcome week for the university I work at so I've been coming home pretty much exhausted most nights. Which isn't good since I am probably having people over for Project Runway tonight...!

We really just need to get rid of boxes, find a place for my harp music, dollhouse, and R2-D2, and then finish putting the clothes through the washer/dryer and putting them away. Really, that's mostly it. And we need to clean the kitchen.

But that will just have to wait for the weekend, as I am extremely busy today/tonight. Whew.

I will be so glad when we are all settled and I can get back to writing...been thinking about what sort of things I can do, and making some long-term goals for myself...

I might try a poem a month all through September, and then plot my NaNo novel in October, then write it in November...and then back to small things like magazine articles in December.

I'd like to get short stories/articles published before I try for an agent for any of my books, so my goals look like this:

1. Write 1-1 1/2 hours a day
2. Have at least 2 children's stories published (in something like Highlights) before contacting an agent
3. Have a solid draft of one or two novels to send to an agent if asked.
4. Keep writing/revising novels while sending out the first couple so there are some ready.

If I can keep that up, between ScriptFrenzy, NaNo, and writing contests, I should get something published in the next 1-3 years, right?!

...and now to unpack so I can go use my writing desk.

Battle Plan

So, we're moving.

In the midst of all the hubbub of packing, carrying things up three flights of stairs, and contemplating what to clean first after everything's out, I've been very excited about...writing.

I was able to procure a tiny writing desk (with great drawer space), and I've placed it by the bed. Now I need to find a good chair, and then...

Then it is back to writing. I've had a couple ideas in my head for the last few days that I need to put in one of my notebooks. And, I've decided that I'm not the type to sit and write for hours. I need short bursts. So, far starters, I'm going to try 30 minutes in the morning, and 30 minutes in the evening. If that goes well, then perhaps we'll try 1/2 my lunch break Wednesday/Friday. That way I'll write at least an hour a day while I try to figure out just what I want to do.

I might try writing short pieces - magazine articles, poetry, or perhaps some short stories. We'll see.

I have an idea of how I want to set up my desk - dried flower arrangement in the corner, a lamp on the other, and some notebooks and a basket of pens...I'm pretty excited about it. :)
