Yesterday I bought materials for my brother's care package and some stickers for the little girl we support through Christian Children's Fund.
I came home and wrote the little girl (her name is Maria) -- I tried to think of simple things we could talk about, like dolls, favorite colors, and drawing. I sent her some really cool fish stickers (they're the embossed-looking kind) and I'm excited to see if I hear back from her. I want to send her a picture of me and a drawing I've done next time.
For my brother, I got a bunch of random stuff -- and I included a note that explained what I bought them for.
Composition Book -- "Don't give up on your creative writing (He writes short essays & poetry) and also write me letters."
Index Cards -- "Excellent for studying. Also for plotting your NaNoWriMo novel, copying down recipes, quotes, etc."
Pens -- "A man's gotta have a good pen."
Chocolate -- "It helps." (Grandpa's homemade walnut fudge & Godiva Milk Chocolate Drops)
A deck of cards -- so many games you can play!
Frisbee -- "Go outside and play. Soak up some Vitamin D. Take a break and go throw something."
Cookbook (Chicken recipes) -- "There's nothing more attractive than a man who can cook. Also, you'll get tired of cafeteria food." (And I'm hoping he'll come visit and want to cook dinner! :P )
Candy -- "What can I say? But please don't get cavities. I will straight up deny that I had anything to do with it. Honestly, sometimes you need to chew on something while you write, and it should not be your pencil." (Ew)
So I'm pretty excited about sending that off tomorrow. I want to knit him an owl keychain with a tiny Hogwarts Acceptance Letter attached, so we'll see if that happens before I ship it out.
Stu looked at all the stuff and remarked, "Ethan's got it good to have a sister like you." AW! Which of course led into us talking about not ever getting care packages. I ended up resorting to purchasing things off of Amazon so I'd have packages. XD (Thanks to Granny, I did get mail occasionally)
Last night "Aunt Abby" and I had a character meeting with the director -- we talked about old lady voices, movement, their personalities/background specifically. I think I'm really going to enjoy working with her -- she and I have watched the movie so many times, but she has a great sense of what she wants out of our cast and the differences between theatre and film.
Today I'm pretty excited -- we have an Ordination Service at church, then a reception, and then I come home for a photography shoot with the couple that hired me for their wedding (these pictures are for their invitations!), and then I am spending some time with a friend I haven't spent time with since last year (or maybe the year before -- !!) even though we both live here...busy schedules. I'm going to make fried rice (My mom makes awesome fried rice so I got her to explain her process last time she was here) and then probably settle down to watch something. Maybe someone will finally watch DragonHunters with me!
