Drawing really is therapy for me. I sketched two drawings yesterday and today I'm coloring them in. I am going to try to scan some of these and put them up on my facebook.
I've drawn about 8 drawings in 2-3 days and I love how it feels like "work." As in, I get to draw, sketch, color, and I've accomplished something when I'm done. It's creative work, and I wish I had a job that would let me do that for a living. I know it might get frustrating at times [like when I can't get the angle just right] but I would love to be able to have a tiny corner of the house in which to draw and have that be my actual JOB. How cool would that be?!? Also, after I draw/color, I feel like I'm "done" for the day. HAHA. I wish.
The two drawings I colored today are very different, in color as well as subject matter. The first drawing is a small 3 X 5 of a blonde girl in sweater and plaid skirt and boots, with books and a purse - ostensibly a fashion student. It's one of the few times I've drawn someone w/ blonde hair. And yes, I'm going to keep spelling it with an "e" on the end. It looks better. :P LOL.
The other drawing is of a fairy with multi-colored wings. She's got a Renaissance gown on, as well as a wreath on her head. She's at a weird angle on the page, but I'm going to cut around her so it doesn't look so off-kilter.
I don't know if I'll do any more drawing today but I really want a book now where I can put all my best drawings. They range from 1" X 1" [or smaller...] to 8 1/2 X 11. So have fun finding a cool book you can put all those in! :P I bet a scrapbook would work...
I am definitely improving. I did not used to draw people from books and although I don't have likenesses to measure by, I did use book descriptions for Lirael and Valancy. And I think anybody who has read the books would be able to recognize them. I'm also getting better at proportions, and the arms don't look so awkwardly long now. I'm trying a different style for hands at the moment, which sometimes works, but I'll probably go back and forth for a while before I find a happy medium.
I'm really hoping when I scan them that they turn out darker since I am more confident w/ my pencils, and not turn all sketchy on me, b/c I don't have the time nor the computer programs to edit them.
All in all...I love drawing. I wish it was my job. And coloring is an excellent way to spend your time.
Have a happy 4th, everybody!!
