I had an idea a few months ago that has slowly developed into a could-be short story. Reading all these great writing books and articles has given me ways to flesh out my ideas and while I'm most excited about the prospect of novel-writing (since that's the bulk of what I read), some of my pieces just don't have that much steam.
And this idea would be a great "beginner's" writing project.
I know the theme: Individuality
And I have the main character, a side character, and some images flashing through my head.
Also a name for the evil object of the story, which I won't reveal here but I'm pretty proud of it.
I think it's something I could eventually send off to a sci-fi or fantasy magazine, or enter in a short story contest.
Once I'm through a few drafts, I might ask a few people to read it and see how they react.
I'm going to do some collecting today and tomorrow as well as scribble down some more notes.
I may also make it my goal to write it all through next week.
Then I could put it away for a few weeks and spend August revising it and have it ready for readers' opinions in September.
...that may be a very loose schedule, but it's a start.
The Finish Line is calling.
Edit: So, apparently, short stories are the most difficult to write because of how condensed you have to make the story arc. ...Maybe I'll write a novella. ;)
