Homages

I was talking last night to someone about Violet's Monster: Volume I (I may have an illustrator!) and when they mentioned that it reminded them of a twist on Where the Wild Things Are, I got to thinking about the several homages I have (intentionally and unintentionally) put into this book. So far, the books/movies/t.v. shows I have homaged directly or indirectly are:

1. Where the Wild Things Are
2. The Chronicles of Narnia
3. What's Up, Doc? (movie)
4. The old Star Wars Trilogy (4,5,& 6)
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel (t.v. series)
6. No Flying In The House
7. Monsters, Inc. (movie)
8. The Importance of Being Earnest (play/movie)

I'm sure there are others but I'm trying to write more story today instead of re-reading previous chapters, so...I'll leave it at that.

The Violet's Monster trilogy is basically a love letter to all the stories I enjoyed as a child and continue to enjoy as an adult. It can certainly stand on its own without reference to these wonderful works, but it's always fun to put in a little homage and see who notices. :)
