Excerpt from Violet's Monster: Volume I, Chapter 5: Violet to the Rescue

Here's a bit of my third revision of Violet's Monster: Volume I. I just wrote it and I think it works a lot better than what was originally there. [It made me laugh, in other words] Let me know what you think.

[Violet and Max are leaving the Monster World and attempting to return to our world...but Violet doesn't know the monsters' method of travel]

“So how are we going to get back to my place? Is there some sort of door or tunnel we go through, or do we just click our feet together a few times and wish for home? And why are our worlds connected in the first place?” Thousands of questions spilled through her head and it was almost impossible to stem the tide so that Max could
answer them.

“There’s a sort of…path from our place to yours. It’s kind of odd you even got here,” Max continued, puffing, “because I didn’t think humans could enter our world.” Violet thought about that for a moment and then gasped. “You mean I could have just ended up spinning around in space forever?!” Max laughed and patted her shoulder. “I think you would have just stayed under the bed.”

“And what’s with all the huts? And the desert? Is this the entirety of Monster World?” Max could tell she was a little let down and this made him laugh harder.
“This is just a part of Monster World, but yes, most of it is like this – at least the parts I’ve seen. We’re a rather primitive race, you see. We scare people. We break stuff. It’s not like we’d appreciate nice things if we had them. What did you think it would look like?”

Max was curious to hear Violet’s thoughts on the matter, but just then they both heard roaring coming from the direction of the village. Max and Violet looked at each other and in silent agreement kicked up their heels in a mad dash to freedom.

“Why is this path so far away from the village?” huffed Violet as she stretched her legs to their fullest capacity. Max shook his head and pointed – “It’s right ahead! Stay with me!” Violet tucked her head and followed Max into the river stretching before them.

Max grabbed Violet as the water suddenly grew ferocious, boiling around them as if they were in a giant cauldron. “Hold on to me!” Max commanded as he attempted to shield her from the rocks they where whizzing past. “Who came up with this way of traveling?!” Violet wanted to know.

Water splashed into their faces, blinding their eyes momentarily to the apparent danger that lay ahead. Max covered Violet’s eyes before she could open them again and yelled, “Whatever you do, don’t look!” Violet screamed, “Why? Does it have something to do with that roaring sound coming from up ahead?”

Max yelled an affirmative as Violet bellowed, “I KNOW THAT SOUND AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY, VERY LARGE WATERFALL!” Max gave up on keeping Violet’s eyes shielded and wrapped both arms around her, hoping she wouldn’t scream all the way down.
