10 Free Activities To Keep You Busy This Summer

If you're like me, you've got a job that's sometimes busy and sometimes very, very slow. There are long periods of time where you're just sitting at the desk twiddling your thumbs. But wait! I have the perfect solution! Here are 10 websites with free things you can do to keep yourself occupied until more work arrives! :) Enjoy.

1. classicshorts.com and bartleby.com - read short stories and poems! Quick reads but there are plenty of them.

2. boatloadpuzzles.com/playcrossword - anyone like crossword puzzles? They keep your high score so you can play yourself. This is a new favorite.

3. coloring.com - go through a coloring book online and color "virtually"!

4. freerice.com - enhance your vocabulary and feed hungry people. Win-win situation.

5. totallyfreecrap.com - I LOVE this site. Send packages [of food!] to yourself.

6. hulu.com - I would only use this during a lunch break...but there are some great shows! The Office, Chuck, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mushi-shi, Alf, and The Rocky & Bullwinkle show are all on here. If you want to watch something shorter, try going to angryalien.com and watch the bunnies re-enact famous movies from Titanic to The Ring.

7. Like to cook? Go to ichef.com or allrecipes.com and start collecting recipes to try out at home! If you use the ichef site you can search for recipes by ingredient. So if you like curry...you'll have a bunch of new things to try in no time!

8. addictinggames.com - I haven't used this site much but I have a lot of friends who spend hours on here. Be careful - it's addicting.

9. punditkitchen.com, roflrazzi.com, icanhascheezburger.com, & ihasahotdog.com - these are sites set up by the same people...pictures with funny captions. Great for the last few minutes of work or when you have the time to flip through all the pages...

10. blogthings.com - I love to take quizzes and see what they say about me. Blogthings.com is strictly a site for quizzes, ranging from "What kind of sandwich are you?" to "What does your bedroom say about you?" There are new ones every few days.

Hope you like these! Any suggestions? Have you been to any of these? Which do you like?

Runners-up:

playlist.com and pandora.com - I don't know if you can listen to music at work (hence the runner-up placement) but these are 2 great sites to build your own radio stations.

asofterworld.com, xkcd.com, qwantz.com, garfieldminusgarfield.net. Some of these can be sketch. But some of the comics are pretty funny. View at your own discretion.

imdb.net - read up on all your favorite actors/actresses and know random facts that make people wonder if you really know Jen or Angelina THAT well...

  1. There's a Garfield Lost in Translation site. Someone translates Garfield into Japanese, and then uses a translation site to translate back into English. Hilarity ensues.
