So, Dave just got me into Japanese animated films - or at least, those done by Ghibli Entertainment/Hirao Miyazaki.
I just watched Spirited Away on Sunday and it was fabulous. I borrowed Nausicaa, Howl's Moving Castle, & Princess Mononoke...so far I haven't had time to watch more than part of Howl's Moving Castle, but I LOVE IT and I can't wait to see the rest of it! O my goodness...
The thing I love about Asian film (I've only seen 3 or 4 Asian films, haha) is that that they allow so much for wonder and creativity...all the films I've seen are highly imaginative, artistic, intelligent, and full of wonder...I mean, most Americans (including my family) would not watch "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" ("Oh, people can't fly, that's silly!") or Spirited Away ("Spirits???" "This is such a weird movie") but...they're a breath of fresh air, really, because of how cynical and hum-drum American movies are becoming...
I love how Miyazaki makes movies - the animation is so gorgeous, the music is lovely, and the stories are so wonderful.
If you haven't seen any Miyazaki films...come watch them with me! :)
You should talk to Elyssa-- she practically idolizes Miyazaki films. And I think she's seen them all at this point.
ReplyDeleteOh, neat! I will have to mention that to Elyssa. I think Miyazaki has a new film coming out - Ponyo on the Cliff. :) I'm excited!
