I just finished watching season 4 of Dexter.
WARNING: this show is graphic in every way. It's on SHOWTIME so...anything goes. As such, I can't recommend it. There's parts I don't even watch.
All that to say...
I absolutely, positively, most definitely love, love, love this show.
It is...breathtaking. Horrifying. Suspenseful. And underneath it all is someone desperately trying to fight his own darkness.
It's brilliant.
Watching the evolution of Dexter's character from a would-be lone wolf to a happy family man who decides he doesn't want his "dark passenger" involved in his life is so well done...believable, and so honest it makes me cry. Over the course of four seasons, Dexter learns and attempts to be a better man than he is.
Seeing human depravity and people reaching toward the light is amazing.
